Sur la lettre, il n'y a pas de timbres d'Afrique du Sud utilisés, mais de l'Afrique du Sud-Ouest (South West Africa, Suidwest Africa), Michel n° 142 et 143, plus tard la Namibie.
Kiris (c'est l'orthographe "allemande", en fait Kiriis) est ou plutôt était un fleuve, c'est pourquoi il y avait aussi Kiriis-Ouest et Kiriis-Est. Kiriis se trouve au sud-ouest, entre Keetmanshoop et la frontière sud-africaine. D'après l'image satellite de Google maps, la rivière et tout le paysage sont probablement désertiques. On peut encore trouver sur Internet des photos de cartes postales datant d'environ 1918 - il y avait encore beaucoup d'eau et de terres vertes.

Kiris (das ist die „deutsche“ Schreibweise, eigentlich Kiriis) ist oder eher war ein Fluss, darum gab es auch Kiriis-West und Kiriis-Ost. Kiriis liegt südwestlich zwischen Keetmanshoop und der Grenze zu Südafrika. Nach dem Satellitenbild in Google-Maps sind heute der Fluss und die ganze Landschaft dort vermutlich Wüste. Man findet im Internet noch Abbildungen von Postkarten von ca. 1918 – da war es noch viel Wasser und grünes Land.

Kiriis lies southwest between Keetmanshoop and the border to South Africa. According to the satellite picture in Google maps today the river and the whole landscape there are probably desert. You can still find pictures of postcards from around 1918 on the Internet - there was still a lot of water and green land.
