Salut Harald
I have just checked in the Facit specialised catalogue: there is no known letter from Denmark for Mexico before 1875. The combination of the cancellation and the stamp is therefore very unlikely to exist as no letter has ever been seen to date. In addition, the cancellation is very legible and complete, which is quite rare for stamps of this period. And above all the date is inverted compared to the inscriptions "Correo Mexico", which is not logical.
I am therefore leaning either for a false obliteration affixed on a cancelled stamp or for a complete forgery, stamp and obliteration.
For your information, here is attached a sales catalogue on offers on Mexico from about the same period. This type of cancellation does not look Mexican.
Otherwise I do not think that the French expeditionary force in Mexico could have used this type of stamp especially with inscriptions in Spanish, nor the other forces present.
Here is a link to the stamps used by the French <<< Link >>>
This nice find is therefore most probably a totally unusual and unlikely fake.
Amitiés
Patrick
