En Finlande, nous voyons cette magnifique série de trois timbres émis en coopération avec le WWF, dans le cadre d'une série pluriannuelle sur ce thème. Les trois timbres représentent chacun un animal en voie de disparition et couvrent trois grands types d'animaux : les oiseaux, les mammifères et les insectes.
Le premier timbre représente le martin-pêcheur. Bien que le martin-pêcheur ne soit pas menacé à l'échelle mondiale, il l'est localement, car il est déplacé par l'activité humaine qui se rapproche de ses habitats de reproduction, le privant ainsi d'eau pendant les hivers rigoureux. Comme on peut le voir sur le timbre, le martin-pêcheur est vraiment magnifique, et se détache merveilleusement.
Le deuxième timbre représente le papillon Apollo, qui est l'un des plus grands papillons locaux. Il vit dans les champs secs et ouverts, où il s'épanouit dans un environnement où les fleurs sont abondantes. La disparition des champs ouverts et de la végétation mixte menace l'Apollon, qui doit lutter pour s'adapter à d'autres environnements. L'Apollon est ici représenté assis au sommet d'une belle fleur sauvage.

In Finnland sehen wir diesen wunderbaren Satz von drei Briefmarken, der in Zusammenarbeit mit dem WWF herausgegeben wurde und Teil einer mehrjährigen Serie zu diesem Thema ist. Die drei Briefmarken zeigen jeweils ein bedrohtes Tier und decken drei Haupttypen von Tieren ab - Vögel, Säugetiere und Insekten.
Die erste Briefmarke zeigt den Eisvogel. Obwohl der Eisvogel auf globaler Ebene nicht bedroht ist, ist er lokal bedroht, da er durch menschliche Aktivitäten, die sich seinen Brutgebieten nähern, verdrängt wird, wodurch er in den harten Wintern keinen Zugang zu Wasser hat. Wie auf der Briefmarke zu sehen ist, ist der Eisvogel wirklich schön und hebt sich wunderbar ab.
Die zweite Briefmarke zeigt den Apollofalter, der einer der größten einheimischen Schmetterlinge ist. Er lebt in den trockenen, offenen Feldern, wo er in einer Umgebung mit einer Fülle von Blumen gedeiht. Der Verlust offener Felder mit gemischter Pflanzenwelt bedroht den Apollo, da er darum kämpft, sich an alternative Umgebungen anzupassen. Der Apollo ist hier auf einer schönen Wildblume sitzend abgebildet.

Moving on to Finland, we see this wonderful set of three stamps issued in cooperation with WWF, and part of a multi-year series on the issue. The three stamp each depict an endangered animal, and they cover three main types of animals - birds, mammals, and insects.
The first stamp depicts the common kingfisher, and although the common kingfisher is not threatened on a global scale, it is threatened locally as it is displaced by human activity moving closer to its breeding habitats, leaving it without access to water in the harsh winters. As seen in the stamp, the kingfisher is truly beautiful, and stands out wonderfully.
The second stamp depicts the Apollo butterfly, which is one of the largest local butterflies. It lives in the dry, open fields, where it thrives in an environment with an abundance of flowers. The loss of open fields with mixed plantlife threatens the Apollo, as it struggles to adapt to alternative environments. The Apollo is here depicted sitting on top of a beautiful wildflower.
Third and final stamp depicts the Siberian flying squirrel, which is a nocturnal animal, famous for its ability to glide between trees, thanks to the membrane that connects the limbs, allowing to a have significantly higher surface area when spreading the limbs. The flying squirrel is threatened by logging, as it loses its advantage without trees to glide between. The stamp shows a flying squirrel gliding in the background, and another one in the front, eating a leaf.
